Paramout unveiled the new Shutter Island trailer today over at Apple. I wish they hadn't moved the release date to February because it looks really amazing.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt on the Inception set

More on set photos via ONTD!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt discusses working on Inception, and has some pretty cool things to say about Leonardo DiCaprio:
It’s so great. I am just really honored and grateful to be working for Mr. Nolan. He has such integrity and what’s really cool about Inception is that he’s getting to make this enormous movie that’s just his own brainchild, just his own idea that he wrote out of his head. I’ve looked up to Leonardo DiCaprio ever since I was very little. He was an actor at a young age, always doing it with such integrity and sincerity. So much of what happens in Hollywood is for all the wrong reasons. That guy does it because he loves it and believes in the art and the craft of it, which shows in his work and his choices. It’s something I have always aspired to and to get to work with him and be in scenes with him is really special. [The Press Association via Nolan Fans]
Inception is currently shooting in Los Angeles after shoots in Japan, England, France, and Morocco. According to Nolan Fans the crew will be filming in LA on Thursday, September 3rd, Friday, September 4th, and Wednesday through Friday, September 9th through the 11th. Address: 1745 E 7th St, Los Angeles. There might also be filming around N. Spring St from College St- Baker St.

Shutter Island moved to 2010

Well, this sucks. Nikki Finke broke the news that Paramount will move Shutter Island from its October 2 release date to February of next year. Finke reminds us that Universal pulled the same stunt with The Wolfman by moving it from November to February as well. But the difference between Wolfman and Shutter Island is that Shutter Island has been on everyone's awards list:
...Paramount's adaptation...looked entrenched for...this coming awards season. For godsakes, the pic is already on people's Oscar list. Such a surprise delay is just going to compound all the buzz surrounding the picture and its great trailer released in June. An insider tells me. "It tested in the high 80s/low 90s and Scorsese even brought it down to 2 hours." So what's the problem? I hear that Paramount told the filmmakers it doesn't have the financing in 2009 to spend the $50M to $60M necessary to market a big awards pic like this.
...So the studio settled on the release date of February 19th because "that's when Silence Of The Lambs came out" back in 1991 and it won the Oscar. "Now that the Academy has expanded Best Picture to 10 films," my insider notes, "it will be easier for a movie that came out in the beginning of the year to get nominated." [Nikki Finke]
That Silence of the Lambs quote sounds like someone is either trying to cover their money grubbing ass or they've got some extreme delusions about the film's Oscar prospects. Moving a Scorsese movie to February is plain stupid. This just blows. I can't believe I'm looking forward to February than the traditional fall months.
You can check out a Japanese trailer for the film below.

New details on Chris Nolan's Inception emerge
Cast members Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, and Ellen Page have been shooting in Paris all week and now some character names and occupations have been revealed thanks to a very crafty someone getting their hands on a call sheet (thanks to /Film via Nolan Fans).
Ellen Page plays Ariadne a grad student and Leonardo DiCaprio's sidekick, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Arthur, DiCaprio's associate, Tom Hardy plays Eames, a member of DiCaprio's team, Marion Cotillard plays DiCaprio's wife, Dileep Rao plays Yusef, Ken Watanabe plays the villain, Saito who is blackmailing DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy plays Fischer, but no other details have emerged about his character, Tom Berenger plays Browning. DiCaprio's name isn't on the list, but people think his character's name is Cobb (a very smart someone over at /Film mentioned that Cobb is the name of the antagonist in Nolan's first film, Following). Michael Caine is also part of the cast, but no word yet on his character.
As many of you already know, the very first teaser trailer for Inception is set to premiere tomorrow attached to prints of Inglourious Basterds. Annoyingly, it probably won't appear online until next week. So, to keep us from going insane with anticipation Screen Rant (via a user from IMDb named wiimovies) points us to a description of the trailer and a plot synopsis. To warn you, there's a slight SPOILER:
Now, I wont give much away because it was a pretty good teaser trailer. It got you wanting more. Their is actual footage of the movie, with Leo and others. Their is One fight scene in what looks to be in a hotel hallway, but not just any fight scene. They were fighting all over the hallway, on side walls, ceilings everywhere. I thought Matrix (Don't panic it's not the matrix but thats what I came up with) Its gonna be a trippy movie. The end music kind of reminded me of Terminator, not the theme music but u will know what I'm talking about. Its only like a minute long and you will want to watch again to see what you just saw. All in all, it was really good.
It starts with the Warner Bros Logo in grey. Then you see Chris Nolan name. This dradle like thing is spinning around. Then Director- The Dark Knight words. You see leo's face. over shot of a city, shaking camera shot. Words come on screen YOUR MIND. Shot of Leo. More words IS THE SCENE OF THE CRIME. Then you see a glass of water, with the water in the glass startes to tilt. people fighting in hallway. The word INCEPTION comes up. then SUMMER 2010.
Yes, Gordon-Levitt is one of the guys that's fighting in the Hallway, on the ceiling and walls. You see a quick shot of his face.
ellen page is not in the teaser, Thier is a shot of a guy being dragged away, it could be him, not familiar with who he is, sorry. Marion was not in the teaser
I believe it. It sounds too good for someone to have made up on the spot just to fool us. Screen Rant also points out that /Film reader Ben M shared some more plot information from Rotten Tomatoes:
“Inception is about entering peoples’ minds/dreams. A technology to do so has been developed and is done through an injection. DiCaprio and his team work to enter the minds of other characters in order to retrieve/plant information.”It could be totally off base, but it sounds very interesting. The more I read about this movie, the more excited I get.

Links for you: Some Hobbit rumors and who the heck is going to play Sinatra?

The Writers Guild of America has set a February date for its 2010 awards ceremony. The WGA also announced the timeline for the awards. [Variety]
Rumor has it that The Hobbit will be a trilogy. Meanwhile, Peter Jackson wants the film to be in 3D, while Guillermo Del Toro isn't too interested. This might be a case of there actually being too much of a good thing. [Empire]
Is Sony actually considering a Hancock sequel? Director Peter Berg hinted at the possibility: "[Sony Pictures] would like to fast-track it, but Will's busy, I'm pretty busy. We're excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it." Here's hoping everyone stays busy. Director Christopher Nolan drops out of The Prisoner. [CineFOOLS]
Who will play Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese's upcoming biopic? If Scorsese gets his way it'll be Leonardo DiCaprio (I love the kid, but please, not again), the studio wants Johnny Depp, while Sinatra's daughter and one of the film's executive producers, Tina wants George Clooney. Let the inevitable backlash begin. [The Playlist]

Links for you: Inception in London and what to do in a post-Potter era

The international trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes is now online. Holmes purists beware. [The Movie Blog]
After nearly 8 years, we now only have two Harry Potter films left to go. What fantasy/kid friendly franchise could possibly take over and fill the void? [Obsessed with Film]
The WGA pays its respects to African-American trailblazer, writer, and TV legend, Judi Ann Mason. [Nikki Finke]
Christopher Nolan's Inception was shooting at University College London and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page were on set. [Nolan Fans]
The 61st Primetime Emmy nominations were announced today, and unlike some of the nominees who pretended not to know the announcements were today, I genuinely forget. I'd devote a whole post to them, but my television analysis is pretty bad.
Here's the good: love for The Flight of the Conchords, lots of nods for Mad Men, a nod for Dexter for Outstanding Series, a Lead Actress nod for Toni Collette, both Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange are nominated for Lead Actress for Grey Gardens, and a nod for Kristin Chenoweth (rest in peace, Pushing Daisies). And here's the downright criminal: an Outstanding Comedy nod for Family Guy, no Jeremy Piven nomination, not one nomination for True Blood, and there are no lead acting nominations for The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. Booo. [Awards Daily]

'Inception' underway in Japan
Awards Daily shares a photo (initially posted over at NolanFans) of director Chris Nolan and Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Ken Watanabe in Tokyo.
A lot of people have balked at Inception's rumored budget (a cool $200 million), but considering that the film's cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio (hey, the guy ain't exactly cheap to book), and its six worldwide shooting locations take place in Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Paris, Tangiers, and Calgary, it's easy to see why the budget is so huge.
Inception has reportedly started shooting in Tokyo, Japan, but other reports state that shooting will start sometime in July. Maybe the conflicting reports are designed to throw the media off, I'm not sure (though the photo taken in Tokyo hints that shooting might have, indeed already begun). If Cinema Rewind is to be believed Inception's fake working title is Oliver's Arrow (named after Nolan's second son).
Inception is set for release on July 16, 2010, and we'll probably learn more details about the film over the course of its 2009 summer shoot.

News on Terry Gilliam's 'Don Quixote' (like for real this time), Depp as Sinatra, and 'Public Enemies' clips
Is today Johnny Depp day or something?
According to Variety, Terry Gilliam will resurrect The Man who Killed Don Quixote, almost ten years after his first try failed. You'll remember that the film was plagued with everything from monstrously bad weather (a flash flood on day two of shooting) to lead actor, Jean Rochefort's back injury.
But, despite the hell it's been trying to bring Don Quixote to the big screen, it looks like Gilliam really will be able to get the film off the ground again. Gilliam will now work with producer Jeremy Thomas, and screenwriter Tony Grisoni, who also drafted the first script. Grisoni and Gilliam have rewritten the script, and the new version involves a filmmaker who joins forces with Don Quixote and unconsciously becomes Sancho Panza.
So, where does Depp fit in with all this? Terry Gilliam is reportedly in talks with Johnny Depp, but because of scheduling problems, it's far from a done deal. Depp or no Depp, Gilliam hopes to shoot The Man who Killed Don Quixote in the spring of 2010. You can watch the only six minutes of the film that were finished to get a feel of the project:

Now on to the Depp as Sinatra business. Niki Finke is trying to make Depp happen. Yesterday there was the announcement that Martin Scorsese really, truly is going to do the Frank Sinatra biopic. According to Finke, Universal Studios is very interested in Johnny Depp playing Sinatra. I'm a Depp cultist, but even I think this choice is a weird. Finke also says that Scorsese may be interested in Leonardo DiCaprio in the role which is something I (foolishly) didn't even expect. I just assumed that Scorsese would draw the line, considering the amount of biopics they have either done or plan on doing. And not to mention DiCaprio being an even weirder choice than Depp. I'm almost as big a DiCaprio cultist as I am a Depp one, but this is getting ridiculous and so predictable it isn't even fun to predict anymore. Despite the weirdness of Depp as Sinatra (then again, when is Johnny not weird?) I must admit, I'd be quite interested in seeing him work with Scorsese for the first time.
And finally, for your viewing pleasure, are two exclusive clips from Public Enemies:

First 'Shutter Island' photo
Leonardo DiCaprio, Michelle Williams, and Martin Scorsese below:
Or is Ashecliffe? I can never keep it straight. Regardless of the name confusion it's impossible not to get excited about another Leonardo DiCaprio/Martin Scorsese match up (they're like cinematic peanut butter and jelly). This will the pair's fourth film, and since all their previous films always end up on everyone's top ten list it would be crazy to ignore its Oscar chances. Though I admit that I've been trying to ignore any write ups about Shutter Island/Ashecliffe because I don't want to accidentally come across spoilers that ruin the twist.

Casting news: Dakota Fanning joins 'The Runaways', Megan Fox proves she's a comic book nerd, and Leonardo DiCaprio teams up with Chris Nolan
From Variety: Dakota Fanning is in talks to play Cherie Currie, the lead singer of The Runaways - the first truly famous all-girl rock band from the 1970s. Dakota's co-star from New Moon, Kirsten Stewart has already signed on to play Joan Jett. Dakota Fanning is 15, and the same age Currie was when she started out with The Runaways. Admittedly, I have my doubts about the
casting. I like Fanning and Stewart, but I just don't know how much weight and strength they could bring to these real life characters. When the rest of the band is cast, we'll get a much fuller picture of where the project is headed. The Runaways is being written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, who I have high hopes for considering her enormous talent as a music video director (just watch Fionna Apple's O' Sailor or Christina Aguilera's Fighter).
Megan Fox has signed on to star in not one, but two comic book adaptations - Jonah Hex and Fathom. Just call her the Carrie Fisher for a new generation of geeks. First, she's signed on to play Leila, the gunslinging love interest to Oscar nominee (I just love being able to write that) Josh Brolin's anti-hero in Jonah Hex. In the adaptation of Michael Turner's comic book, Fathom, Fox plays Aspen, a young woman who is discovered at sea and later learns she is a member of an aquatic race of humanoids who can control water. Um...okay then; nobody will be watching either film to see Megan Fox act and I doubt there will even be a reason to have a costume department. I have my own girl crushes (Kerry, Penelope, Emily), but Ms. Fox has never done it for me. It would be cruel to deprive you of photos though, so I'll oblige:
And finally: Leonardo DiCaprio will star in Inception, helmed by my one true love Chris Nolan. If you want to know more about the film, there's basically nothing I can give you. All anyone knows is that Inception is a sci-fi action movie that takes place in the architecture of the mind. Sounds like utter Greek to me, but I will watch anything Nolan directs or DiCaprio stars in. The combined forces of these two is just impossible not to get excited about. The film will open July 16, 2010.
