Nine moved to December

It was bound to happen. According to RopeofSilicon The Weinstein Company has officially pushed Nine from November 25 to a limited release on December 18 in New York and LA. The film goes into wide release on Christmas Day. Earlier rumors that the film would get pushed to next year were obviously off, but the move isn't surprising.

I don't think the move helps Nine's chances. It would originally have had to deal with The Road (another Weinstein Oscar hopeful), The Princess and the Frog (limited release), Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Me and Orson Welles. New Moon, which is a guaranteed hit is set to open on November 20, so perhaps Nine is being moved to be saved from that.

Now Nine has to contend with A Single Man, which has now been set to open wide on Christmas Day, Avatar (December 18), Sherlock Holmes, The Young Victoria, It's Complicated, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I haven't even mentioned the opening of Invictus or The Lovely Bones which open a week before Nine's new limited release. On paper this looks like a terrible idea, but I'm not really great at predicting box office and its effect on awards season.

Along with this news Nine - the Movie (via ONTD!) points us to the November cover of Vogue with the women of Nine.

New details on Chris Nolan's Inception emerge

Cast members Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, and Ellen Page have been shooting in Paris all week and now some character names and occupations have been revealed thanks to a very crafty someone getting their hands on a call sheet (thanks to /Film via Nolan Fans).

Ellen Page plays Ariadne a grad student and Leonardo DiCaprio's sidekick, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Arthur, DiCaprio's associate, Tom Hardy plays Eames, a member of DiCaprio's team, Marion Cotillard plays DiCaprio's wife, Dileep Rao plays Yusef, Ken Watanabe plays the villain, Saito who is blackmailing DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy plays Fischer, but no other details have emerged about his character, Tom Berenger plays Browning. DiCaprio's name isn't on the list, but people think his character's name is Cobb (a very smart someone over at /Film mentioned that Cobb is the name of the antagonist in Nolan's first film, Following). Michael Caine is also part of the cast, but no word yet on his character.

As many of you already know, the very first teaser trailer for Inception is set to premiere tomorrow attached to prints of Inglourious Basterds. Annoyingly, it probably won't appear online until next week. So, to keep us from going insane with anticipation Screen Rant (via a user from IMDb named wiimovies) points us to a description of the trailer and a plot synopsis. To warn you, there's a slight SPOILER:

Now, I wont give much away because it was a pretty good teaser trailer. It got you wanting more. Their is actual footage of the movie, with Leo and others. Their is One fight scene in what looks to be in a hotel hallway, but not just any fight scene. They were fighting all over the hallway, on side walls, ceilings everywhere. I thought Matrix (Don't panic it's not the matrix but thats what I came up with) Its gonna be a trippy movie. The end music kind of reminded me of Terminator, not the theme music but u will know what I'm talking about. Its only like a minute long and you will want to watch again to see what you just saw. All in all, it was really good.

It starts with the Warner Bros Logo in grey. Then you see Chris Nolan name. This dradle like thing is spinning around. Then Director- The Dark Knight words. You see leo's face. over shot of a city, shaking camera shot. Words come on screen YOUR MIND. Shot of Leo. More words IS THE SCENE OF THE CRIME. Then you see a glass of water, with the water in the glass startes to tilt. people fighting in hallway. The word INCEPTION comes up. then SUMMER 2010.

Yes, Gordon-Levitt is one of the guys that's fighting in the Hallway, on the ceiling and walls. You see a quick shot of his face.

ellen page is not in the teaser, Thier is a shot of a guy being dragged away, it could be him, not familiar with who he is, sorry. Marion was not in the teaser

I believe it. It sounds too good for someone to have made up on the spot just to fool us. Screen Rant also points out that /Film reader Ben M shared some more plot information from Rotten Tomatoes:
“Inception is about entering peoples’ minds/dreams. A technology to do so has been developed and is done through an injection. DiCaprio and his team work to enter the minds of other characters in order to retrieve/plant information.”
It could be totally off base, but it sounds very interesting. The more I read about this movie, the more excited I get.

Writer gives 'Public Enemies' his blessing

Today is a slow news day, and since I'm in the process of moving this week, for the first time in 7 years (and to the apartment above mine, no less), I've got next to nothing entertaining to write about, except some Public Enemies news and a new photo featuring Depp as Dillinger via EW:

Bryan Burrough, writer of the book Public Enemies is based on, is impressed with Michael Mann's work on the upcoming film. He hasn't seen the film yet, but from his experience as an extra on the Public Enemies set, he thinks the film will be good:

"Johnny Depp goes down on the same exact piece of pavement that John Dillinger went down on," Burrough said in a phone interview from his home in Summit, N.J. "To see what (director Michael) Mann had done with the period costumes, the period automobiles, everything looking as everything must have looked. For someone who put five years into writing about that, it just kind of gave you chills."

Not that he can yet be sure: Burrough said he hasn't been able to make any of the early screenings.

"I don't know what to expect. I assume, you know, it's a big Johnny Depp movie opening on July 4 (weekend)," he said. "I assume an awful lot of people will go see it. I assume given the people that have made this movie, I assume it's going to be pretty darn good. And I assume that I am going to go to be tickled to death."[Carrie Antlfinger: Associated Press]

Casting news: the 'Jonah Hex', 'Inception', and 'The Losers' edition

Will Arnett and Michael Shannon have been cast in the adaptation of Jonah Hex. Arnett will play a Union soldier in a non-comedic role. It seems like a strange choice for a comedian like Arnett - though I wouldn't categorize the majority of his films as actually being comedic. Sure the intent of his films are to make people laugh, but the films he makes are painfully unfunny. Though, I'm still working on a reason for why I am desperately in love with the man. Casting Michael Shannon as Doc Cross Williams isn't nearly as much of a departure. I look forward to his eccentric take on things. The casting though, seems very all over the place. I can't tell if this is the greatest casting I've seen in a long time, or the most bizarre cast of characters ever put on screen. Both actors join a cast that includes John Malkovich and Megan Fox. Filming is set to begin later this month in Louisiana. [Empire]

Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, and Ellen Page are in negotiations to join Leonardo DiCaprio in Christopher Nolan's Inception. Production will start this summer and the film is set to open July 16, 2010. Almost everyone involved with this film has either been nominated for an Oscar or won the thing. Except for poor Cillian Murphy, who was robbed for Breakfast on Pluto. Someone please nominate the guy already. [Variety via Nolan Fans]

Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana are in talks to star in the film version of Vertigo/DC comic, The Losers. Both actors will play members of a Special Forces team, with Elba playing mercenary Roque while Saldana will play Aisha. I will probably watch anything if Idris Elba is in it. The past two episodes of him guest starring on The Office have been pure bliss. [Empire]
