According to ComingSoon, Diane Lane will star in Secretariat, a Disney film about the 1973 Triple Crown winner and his owner Helen "Penny" Chenery. Lane will play Chenery, a housewife who had little knowledge of horse racing when she took over her father, Christopher Chenery's farm. Secretariat became the first Triple Crown winner in twenty-five years, and Chenery, the "First Lady of Racing" was the first woman elected a member to The Jockey Club.
There are going to be obvious comparisons to Seabiscuit, which was a film I didn't particularly like anyway. I have a feeling that like Seabiscuit, the film will be another feel good paint-by-numbers biopic, but I do like horse racing more than I ought to.
